Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area

9/29/2007 Went east of Atlanta to Arabia Mountain (an NHA). Started at a Nature Center and took a maybe 3 mile hike through the woods to a lake and back around via a boardwalk and biking path. Drove a mile away and parked for a half mile hike to the top of Arabia Mountain. Very hot climbing this unusual monolithic-looking mountain – a lot of bare open rock. Nice view from the top which I photo-ed then headed back down.

Augusta Canal National Heritage Area

5/18/2003 Back down to Augusta … into historic area. Tried to find the interpretive center for the Augusta Canal NHA [Historic Augusta Canal and Industrial District] and couldn’t, so went to the visitor center at the Cotton Exchange near the River Walk. Found out where the canal place was and took a short walk on the River Walk (on the levy and closer to the river) on the Savannah. Back to the canal interpretive center (we were a half a block off). Saw a good film about the canal, then saw a working loom (amazingly loud!). Outside for a look at the canal, then on the road.
