Photography
I've been into photography since I was a kid. Our
Dad had me and brother Ken working a camera as young as we could reasonably
handle it. We started with the Kodak Brownie Hawkeye, and moved on from there to
other styles, and finally 35 mm SLR. My favorite camera was a Pentax Super Program. Along with the basic body
and 50 mm lens, I had the flash attachment, autowinder, 28 mm fixed wide angle lens, 210
mm fixed
telephoto lens, and the one that stayed on the camera the most - a 35-105 mm
adjustable lens. This setup let me explore a lot of photographic techniques,
with some pretty good results, if I do say so myself. Eventually, though, this
being a lot of stuff to lug around, I switched over to the ease of the new
digital cameras (all point-and-shoots). That naturally led to using the digital
camera on my phone. These days the results are truly astounding, and like
everyone else the camera is always available in my pocket.
For many years before the digital age, I also was
into home photographic processing - first in Mom and Dad's basement, then in a spare room in
my apartment. In the black & white years I developed the negatives
themselves, then the actual prints in the classic three trays of chemicals
under a red light. For color, I let the pros do the negatives, then printed
enlargements myself, all in one chemical drum on a motorized roller.
Below are a few photos of my life in photography.
Regretfully I have very few photos of the processing equipment - oh well. Below that
are some examples of my favorite photos I used in creating calendars for me and the
family, starting in 2007. Most of these came from my
travels.
