National Seashores - Georgia
Cumberland Island National Seashore
4/9/2009 On the road up to St. Mary’s in GA. Parked at the Cumberland Island NS visitor center. ... picked
up our reserved ferry tickets. Very crowded due to spring break, and glad we had reserved. Onto the ferry up top in
gorgeous weather. About 45 pleasant minutes out to the island. Saw some of the wild horses from the boat. On the island,
first action was our “lunchables” lunch. Checked out the Ice House museum briefly, and got pretty close to some more horses.
We then took the River Trail (1.3 miles) through beautiful forest of palmetto and live oak with Spanish moss. Came across an
armadillo nosing around for stuff. We reached the second ferry dock, then headed across the island to the dunes, from which we
could see the ocean. Back to the dock, a little snack, then the ferry ride back. A really nice time here.
