Pullman National Historical Park
10/15/2021 Parked in the central part of the relatively recently created Pullman National Monument (also SHS and Pullman Historic District NHL).
The district was the first model, planned industrial community in the U.S., as well as the scene of the violent 1894 Pullman strike. The administration building has been
nicely restored as a VC, although it was closed when we got there. Other parts of the factory building are in ruins or bad shape, and other are completely gone, but
interpretive signage gave us a good sense of the size and workings of the factory complex. From there we walked to the Hotel Florence, and then to the circular Market
Hall area surrounded by homes including colonnade apartments and townhouses. This was all part of the concept of having the factory workers being able to live and work
all in the same area.
