Poverty Point National Monument

5/15/2008 On the road for the long haul north and east to Poverty Point NM [NHL] (actually a LA SHS). Around 3000 years ago the natives constructed huge concentric arcs of ridges and large mounds (one in the shape of a bird). Took a trail around the area (very hot). The ridges have eroded down to bumps, but the bird mound took a bit of climbing (was over 70 feet). Back to the visitor center to check out the archeological finds, ...
