Acadia National Park
8/1973 Drove to Acadia National Park with Pomerenks. Camped at Blackwoods Campground. Hiked on trail overlooking Sand Beach, visited beach. Went to Cadillac Mountain, Thunder hole, took nature tour with ranger. Went to Anemone Cave, Echo Lake, Bubble Pond, Jordan Pond, saw The Bubbles, Balancing Rock on South Bubble. Went to Jordan Pond House for tea, ice cream and popovers. ... went to Abbe Museum, Bass Harbor Lighthouse ... . Took a boat tour: saw lobster fishing, Bear Island, went to Baker Island for nature tour.
9/3/1994 From there we drove to Acadia National Park. Stopped at the visitor center, then took the loop road.
Stopped at many turnoffs to see the beautiful views. Walked down to the Sand Beach, and stopped at the Thunder Hole, which was dead silent due
to calm water and low tide. Stopped at the Jordan Pond House and, after a short wait for the dinner seating had an excellent dinner including
local scallops, popovers and hand-made ice cream. After a short walk to Jordan Pond, drove up Cadillac Mt. just in time for a great sunset (quite
cool up there!). Drove back off the island ... .
9/4/94 Up early again. This time a nice breakfast in the hotel restaurant. Drove
back to Mt. Desert Island and down the west half, down to Bass Harbor Head
Light. Not much of a lighthouse, but the trail down to view it gave a beautiful
view of the rocky shoreline and nearby islands, complete with bell buoy gonging.
