Natchez National Historical Park
9/29/1997 Continued south to Natchez where, after circling a bit, we found the Melrose Mansion [NHL]
(in Natchez National Historic Park). Got there at 4:05, but luckily got a personalized tour. Beautiful home and furnishings -
great painted oilcloth floor in one room, huge wooden fan over the dining room table (for flies). Took a little walk around
the outside, but the site was closing ...

4/30/2023 Melrose NHL, also in the Natchez NHP. An 1840 home that achieves "perfection" in Greek Revival design; the site includes
the two-story mansion and its slave quarters ... Forks of the Road (in Natchez NHP). This is the site of the second largest domestic slave market in the
Deep South. In the mid-19th century, tens of thousands of men, women, and children were brought in chains and coffles from the Upper South to the slave
market in Natchez.
