Carl Sandburg National Historic Site

4/7/1998 Drove down to Flat Rock to the Carl Sandburg NHS [Connemara NHL]. Walked up the hill to the home, an 1800s house with great views of the mountains. Saw an E. R. Murrow interview from 1956, then took a tour of the home where CS lived for decades and died in. Still looks as if he could still be there - well laid out, including his over 10000 books. Walked down to the barn to see descendants of the champion goats Mrs. Sandburg raised.

Fort Raleigh National Historic Site

5/10/1996 Walked over to the Fort Raleigh National Historic Site and saw the reconstruction of the earthen fort area (the Lost Colony).
