Appomattox Court House National Historical Park
2/15/1998 Headed back north through back roads to Appomattox Court House NHP. Saw a slide show
in the reconstructed courthouse, and went into the McNeal house (mostly reconstructed) where Lee surrendered 28000 men
to Grant (with 60000). Walked around here a bit too (weather has been sunny and cold, about 45).

Cedar Creek and Belle Grove National Historical Park
4/8/2006 ... then headed south to Belle Grove Plantation/Cedar Creek Battlefield (NPS) [NHL].
Waited about 20 minutes for the first tour of the day with one other couple. Excellent tour of the restored home that
had been used as headquarters by the Union Army.

Colonial National Historical Park
5/11/1996 Drove a little ways to Cape Henry to see the old and new lighthouses [Cape Henry Lighthouse NHL] and the
monument where the English colonists first landed [Cape Henry Memorial, part of Colonial NHP]. ... Drove from Norfolk to Jamestown
and the National Historic Site [part of Colonial NHP]. Interesting and fun place. Saw ruins of some of the 1607 buildings, current
archeological excavations, monuments to Pocahontas and John Smith, a 17th century ship (recreated) sailing offshore. Extremely windy here!

4/10/1998 Drove a short way to Yorktown Battlefield in Colonial NHP. At the visitor center,
saw a very good film about the battle and surrender, then looked at the exhibits, including a section of a ship.
Walked a path to a memorial monument, then into the small town. Saw many old buildings, some from the 1600s and 1700s.
