Birthplace

Birthplace: Log Cabin (now under Franklin Pierce Lake), Hillsboro, NH

Visited: 4/23/22

Log Excerpt: "We stopped first at Manahan Park along the shores of manmade Franklin Pierce Lake for a view of where Pierce’s birth home was supposed to have been. Although disputed by some, we went with it, especially given the name of the lake."

Home

Home: The Pierce Homestead, Routes 9 and 31, Hillsboro, NH

Visited: 7/7/10

Log Excerpt: "Headed west to Hillsborough and the Pierce Homestead. This home was built for Benjamin Pierce (Revolutionary war hero, statesman, Governor – interesting guy) and FP moved there when he was one month old (original house gone and location now under a lake). Took another very good personal (and hotter) tour here, with nicely restored or reproduced wall coverings (paper, paint/stencil)."

Home

Home: Pierce Manse, 14 Horseshoe Pond Lane, Concord, NH

Visited: 7/7/10

Log Excerpt: "Continued ... to the Pierce Manse, the home Franklin lived in before heading to DC. The house had been moved from downtown where FP was a lawyer and state representative when his father Benjamin was Governor. Uninspiring outside of the house but very nicely restored inside which we saw on a personal (and hot) tour."

Home

Home: Home of his retirement (Marker), 52 South Main, Concord, NH

Visited: 4/23/22

Log Excerpt: "We continued down into Concord, NH for the least exciting stop of the day - a repeat visit for Ken at the marker for the Franklin Pierce House, where the President died in 1869. The house burned down in 1981, and along with the marker all that is left is the concrete doorstep and front walkway."
