Malad Gorge State Park
5/29/1995 ... then on to Bliss (near Tuttle) and the Malad Gorge State Park. A great view of the Snake River running in a deep, narrow gorge. Even had a bridge over it for observation.
Massacre Rocks State Park
9/23/2023 We did stop at Register Rock SHS in Massacre Rocks State Park where we could see names and dates from when Oregon and California Trails (NHT) emigrants scratched their names and dates into a big boulder, now under a pavilion cover and fenced in.
Niagara Springs State Park
9/25/2023 Niagara Springs NNL. Emitting 250 cubic feet of water per second, this is an impressive waterfall nestled in the cliffs of the Snake River Canyon. In Niagara Springs SP, we dropped down into the Snake River Canyon, noting a large fish hatchery on the way, and parked at a small, dusty little area. A short path took us to a view of the impressive falls. The water gushes out of the side of the lava rock face of the cliff side, then roars down over the rocks below, picking paths all over including through areas with plants growing where it would seem they couldn’t survive. We noted that some of the water is diverted to the fish hatchery - clean, cold water for the little fishies.
Old Mission State Park
9/23/1989 Drove to and toured Cataldo Mission [NHL, Old Mission State Park].
Packer John’s Cabin State Park
9/24/2023 Marker – Packer John’s Cabin “John Welch -- Always known as Packer John – hauled supplies from Lewiston to Idaho City during a major Boise Basin gold rush of 1863-1864.” Monument - Packer John’s Cabin. “Packer John’s Cabin one fourth mile north built 1862, first democratic territorial convention held in cabin fall of 1863, erected by Sons and Daughters of Idaho Pioneers 1936”. These last two are at the entrance to Packer John’s Cabin SP. We drove around the park camping area but didn’t spot the replica cabin; apparently it is further down a trail than we could see.
