Casey Jones Museum State Park

9/29/1997 Stopped in Vaughan at the Casey Jones Museum State Park - a little museum in a railroad station house near the spot where CJ died in the famous wreck. Some interesting memorabilia. Had a very nice picnic lunch just outside.

Winterville State Park

4/29/2023 Getting back on the GRR, in Winterville we hit Winterville State Park for Winterville Site NHL, where we were all alone with thunder rumbling and skies threatening. This is an archaeological site including more than twelve large platform mounds from 1200-1400 and is a type site for the Plaquemine Mississippian culture. We walked the path with interpretive panels, checking out the one very impressive large mound and other satellite mounds forming the almost 1000-year-old complex.
