Cathedral Gorge State Park

5/26/2006 Stopped at Cathedral Gorge State Park and saw some fascinating formations. Tall badlands-type stuff but carved down to the ground in steep spires so you could walk through them in places. Winds whistling though, tumbleweeds caught there, dark spots – very eerie.

Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park

5/22/2015 The first stops were around the famous Cave Rock, first at the Logan Shoals vista point, then through the tunnel, and finally to a lakeshore park and boat launch area in Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park. We got some good views of the big rock formation that the LH originally skirted on a ledge over the lake before the tunnel was put in. The lake views were pretty, but due to the cloudy and sometimes rainy weather not as spectacular as they could be.

Valley of Fire State Park

11/5/2002 Out at 9:30, up to Valley of Fire State Park, doing Mad Libs on the way. Another gorgeous day. Drove the park road, stopping at turnouts to see beautiful red sandstone features, petrified logs, etc. Enjoyed the warm sun while walking sandy trail to see many petroglyphs.

Ward Charcoal Ovens State Historic Park

5/23/2014 ovens, built in 1876 by itinerant Italian masons who specialized in the ovens, prepared charcoal from locally-harvested timber for use in the smelters at Ward. The remaining structures were pretty impressive in their construction and we made goofy noises inside where there were cool acoustics.
