Carter House State Historic Park

9/17/2016 ... I moved into the Franklin Battlefield NHL district. This large area is the site of the late Civil War Second Battle of Franklin. As a representative spot I stopped at the Carter House SHS, at the center of the Union position and having over a thousand bullet holes visible.

James K. Polk Ancestral Home State Park

9/17/2016 In Columbia I stopped at the James K. Polk Ancestral Home NHL (and SHS). The 1816 Federal-style house built by his father is the President’s only surviving home. After watching a video and looking through the small museum, I got an excellent personal tour of the home, furnished with many items from Polk Place, the now-demolished last Polk home.

Sgt. Alvin C. York State Historic Park

9/16/2016 Ended up at Sgt. Alvin C. York SHP. Checked out the Grist Mill, then crossed the road to look at the rest of the Alvin Cullum York Farm NHL District - the farm and gristmill once owned by the decorated World War I soldier. Walked around the house and farm buildings while watching the dark clouds.
