Aroostook National Wildlife Refuge

6/30/2008 On the road again to near Caribou and (after lots of searching again) found one gate to the Aroostook NWR. Not really much here (that we found) but took a 1/3 mile walk to a cute lake.

Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge

6/29/2008 Headed north a ways to Moosehorn NWR. Took the 1.2 mile loop Raven Trail in light rain which stopped - very nice trail through the forest (and did see a fox).

Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge

6/28/2008 ... then a short distance to Rachel Carson NWR. Weather is very cool, hazy, with occasional sprinkles Took a nice hike on a very pretty trail [Carson Trail NRT] through the woods overlooking rivers and salt marsh.

Sunkhaze Meadows National Wildlife Refuge

7/1/2008 Headed a short way north to the visitor center for the Sunkhaze Meadow NWR and got map and brochures. After circling some, finally got on a normal then gravel road along the mostly undeveloped NWR. Spotted the parking area for the Ash Landing trail after about 8 miles of rattling along, parked and walked the 0.25 mile trail (along with lots of mosquitoes) through nice woods to the Sunkhaze Stream. Headed right back, swatting bugs all the way.
